Your Borough Of Poole

This Girl Can

This Girl Can is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations to encourage women to take part in more sport or physical activity.
This Girl Can celebrates the women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. The campaign is here to inspire us to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.

This Girl Can Logo

It's a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.
Details of the campaign along with its promotional videos can be found on the This Girl Can website

Advice on how to help women and girls get active is at your fingertips with the launch of a free interactive guide.

Aimed at those who help make sport and activity happen, it encourages you to think about the barriers there may be to getting active, explores working with other organisations and includes common sense ways to get repeat visits to classes.

The practical guide is split into sections which include:

Attracting women’s attention and encouraging them to attend

  • Running your sessions
  • Keeping women and girls coming back
  • Learning from others.

While 13 million women and girls say they want to play more sport, in reality only half that number actually do.

The Borough of Poole has a wealth of sport and physical activity opportunities for women who wish to become more active.

Back to Sport Courses

Back to sport sessions are fun, sociable and informal and aimed at people who either haven’t played a particular sport for a number of years or who are looking to play for the first time. Don’t worry if you’re nervous or don’t remember any rules all Back to Sport courses will gentle guide you through this series of fun and friendly sessions. We promise it’s nothing like the schools days of muddy pitches and standing around waiting for a touch of the ball!
