Your Borough Of Poole

Read Your Way Around The South West

With the weather so beautiful, who needs to go abroad? Take a staycation and enjoy a reading journey around the South West.

Over the summer, Poole libraries are joining forces with all libraries in the South West of England and inviting you to discover some of the many authors who have lived in or written about our beautiful region.

Pick up a South West Reading Passport from any library between 12 August and 30 September and start your reading journey.

Each page of the passport has a list of six authors from a different library service as a taster.  Because there are so many brilliant authors in the region, and we couldn’t fit them all into the passport, longer lists will be displayed in libraries and on our website, if you want more inspiration. To help get you started, Poole's page includes John le Carre, Imogen Parker, and Andrew Lane.

You can read any number of books from anywhere in the region – you don’t have to start with, or even include, one from your own area.  We just want to promote the wide range of fiction and non-fiction that has come out of our region and suggest some new reading ideas.

Cllr Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, Borough of Poole, said: “With summer upon us, what nicer way to relax than with a book written about our fabulous local area. Whether you’re inspired by a Thomas Hardy classic or something more modern, I’d encourage as many people as possible to read their way around the south west.”

There is a tear out page in the passport for you to recommend your favourite book, and we’d really like to hear about where your reading journey takes you. Each review handed in before 30 September will be entered into a prize draw in Poole.

Pop into your library to pick up your passport and start your journey or visit the library webpages for more information
