Go-Ahead given for Local Sustainable Transport work to North Road

Approval has been given to go ahead with works to North Road to improve the network for sustainable travel between Poole and Bournemouth.

The works are part of the £12 million allocated to Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to improve sustainable transport between the three towns.

Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "From consultation with residents in North Road we know that some are concerned about the loss of  parking space.  We have taken these concerns on board and amended the plans to signifcantly reduce the amount of parking being removed to better accommodate cyclists on the uphill side and improve bus travel time.

"If we are serious about keeping Poole an attractive place to live, work and play then getting from A to B with minimal delay is imperative.  By making improvements now, in the long-term we will have a good infrastructure in place that will enable people to travel more easily without the need for cars, which means less congestion, better air quality and less carbon emissions impacting on our environment."

Residents also raised concerns about the speed of traffic along North road and the council will be monitoring this closely to assess the impact the improvement works have.
