Have Your Say On Travel Improvements In Branksome, Poole

Local people can have their say on how nearly £500,000 will be spent to improve travel along Poole Road and Bourne Valley Road, together with improvements to Branksome Railway Station.

This follows on from the initial consultation with local people on how £1 million can be spent improving travel in Ashley Road.

Funding has been allocated by Borough of Poole from the £12.1 million Three Towns Travel project for improved travel options in between Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

Approximately £460,000 has been allocated for travel improvements to Poole Road, including the junction with Bourne Valley Road. The money could be spent on improved provision for cyclists by making it safer and more convenient and better for buses in reducing journey times and improved reliability. Residents could also potentially benefit from enhancements to the street environment and facilities such as pedestrian crossings to encourage people to walk locally.

A further £25,000 has also been set aside to improve Branksome Railway Station. New cycle storage lockers, better pedestrian access to the station and platforms or changes to parking arrangements could encourage people to use the train more frequently.

People can give their views by completing an online questionnaire at boroughofpoole.com/threetownstravel which will be available until Friday 21 June 2013. You will also find more information here about the Three Towns Travel project.

Council staff will also be at St Aldhelm's Church, in St Aldhelm's Road, on Wednesday 12 June 2013 between 12.30pm and 7.30pm to answer any questions, listen to residents' views on what the improvements could look like and to offer help with completing the questionnaire.

Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: "The responses from this survey will help us shape travel improvement proposals to the commuter routes through Branksome. By also improving the experience for users of Branksome Railway Station, it is hoped that many more local people may choose rail travel as their preferred means of getting around the borough. So whether you walk, cycle, use the bus, car or train, please complete the questionnaire as your opinions do count."

A further consultation on the travel improvement options will be held in the autumn/winter, with the works likely to start on both of these projects during 2014.
