Summer Breeze focuses on Poole Quay

In a change to previous years, Poole’s 2013 summer fireworks evenings will take place for six weeks solely on Poole Quay.

Starting on 25 July and running every Thursday evening in August from 7pm, the Breeze Volkswagen sponsored Summer Breeze on the Quay will provide live music, street entertainment and family fun followed by spectacular fireworks over Poole Harbour.

Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “Whilst Summer Breeze on the Beach has been really popular, the local businesses that support the events and pay for the fireworks wanted to concentrate Summer Breeze on Poole Quay over the main summer holiday period.  After talking to partners, Poole Tourism Partnership took the decision to focus the event at the time and location that provides the most economic impact for the town.   Our aim in putting on special events is always to provide interest and entertainment for visitors and residents to enjoy whilst benefitting the local tourism and hospitality business that invest in the town.”

Summer Breeze first moved to the beach in 2001 and has been part of Poole’s annual Summer Breeze evenings ever since, traditionally taking place in August.  Fireworks at the beach event have been sponsored by the FJB Collection since its inception, and supported by the Sandbanks Beach Café and Branksome Beach Restaurant since 2011.  Although the decision will see three less firework nights, this year’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South programme has a number of new events, including a new free Folk Festival on Poole Quay on 29-30 June.

John Butterworth, Managing Director of the FJB Collection, said: ”Over the last 12 years, Summer Breeze on the Beach has been a wonderful event for the town and our business which we are extremely proud of.  I understand the reasons for the decision and the need to achieve the greatest economic impact for the town, and look forward to new events coming forward.”

Graham Richardson, Poole Tourism Manager, said; “We would like to thank John Butterworth for his vision in sponsoring the fireworks at Summer Breeze on the Beach back in 2001 and for the continued support he and all our other partners have shown for the event over the years.  Whilst this event will not be taking place this year, we are always looking to work with people on quality new events and opportunities in the town.  Poole is a great location for special events and this is an exciting time to be involved.”
