Family Friendly Poole Museum

Families who have enjoyed a visit to Poole Museum can now nominate it for a family friendly award.

The Telegraph's Family Friendly Museum Award 2013 recognises museums that go the extra mile to provide activities, entertainment and facilities for families.

Poole Museum by Poole Quay is free and open throughout the year. Families can enjoy the interactive displays and exhibits or experience the special holiday and exhibition trails. Once a month, families can attend one of the Museum’s free short story sessions and throughout the year they can take part in free family activities in the Museum, at Scaplen’s Court and at the Roman House at Upton Country Park.

There’s something for children of all ages at Poole Museum. Every week babies and toddlers visit the Museum to take part in Museum Music and Mime. Toddlers and preschoolers can take part in the special performances by Treehouse Theatre while young children and their grandparents can play in the 1950s kitchen and talk about times gone by. Young people can sign up to become members of the Poole Young Archaeologists Club, which meets monthly. Teenagers also meet at the Museum monthly to advise staff on a range of matters, from the kind of gifts to sell in the shop to the type of exhibitions to put on display.

Councillor Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement and Participation, Borough of Poole, said: "There is always something special going on at Poole Museum for families of all shapes and sizes. Whether it’s making a potion with the Scaplen’s Court witch on Halloween or baking bread outside at the Roman House at Upton Country Park, there's lots of fun free entertainment for families to enjoy.

"So if you have visited Poole Museum and whiled away a happy afternoon as a family, why not nominate it for this award and help Poole Museum continue to deliver a wide range of free and low cost family activities. If you haven't visited Poole Museum yet why not come along and see what it has to offer your family."

Nominations can be made by email, award@kidsinmuseums.org.uk or by post, Telegraph Family Friendly Museums Award, Kids in Museums, Can Mezzanine, 49-51 East Road, London, N1 6AH and state why Poole Museum stands out as a family friendly venue. The deadline for nominations is 10 May 2013.
