Upton Music and Mime

A singing and signing course for babies, toddlers and their parents is being held at Upton Country Park.

The course will run in five week blocks starting on Monday 3 June. During each hourly session, parents and their children will be able to learn some key signs to assist in early communication. Each week will cover a different theme and by the end of the course parents will have built up a useful working vocabulary. The signs will be taught using well known nursery rhymes and songs.

The children and their parents and carers are able to learn some simple signs from a modified form of sign language, Sign Along. Babies are often able to learn and use signs before they are able to speak and so this helps them to communicate from an earlier age.
The course will take place in the Education Centre at Upton Country Park. Making most of the picturesque setting, the sessions will be relaxed and informal.

Councillor Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation (with responsibility for Arts and Culture), Borough of Poole, said: "We are thrilled to be offering this exciting course for babies and toddlers. Music is an essential part of a child's development and these stimulating and enjoyable sessions for both child and parent can help build confidence, social and communication skills whilst being in a fun, relaxed and friendly environment.

"We would encourage anyone interesting in this course to join us for a free taster session at Upton Country Park Education Centre on Monday 20 May between 10 am and 11 am."

The Upton Music and Mime course is open to children and their carers between the ages of 0-3 years old. The course will start on 3 June and will run every Monday for five weeks between 10 am and 11am. The cost is £20.00 per child for the whole course and booking is essential.
