Trading Standards Prosecute Local Couple For Counterfeiting

Borough of Poole Trading Standards have prosecuted a local couple for counterfeiting.

David and Linda Cross, of Lytham Road, Broadstone, pleaded guilty to 20 out of 21 charges of trademark offences at Bournemouth Magistrates Court on 14 November. The case has now been referred to Bournemouth Crown Court for confiscation proceedings and sentence; the next hearing will take place on 13 December.

The offences, which related to online counterfeiting, netted Mr and Mrs Cross thousands of pounds. The couple applied trademarks to well known brands such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Gruffalo, JLS and One Direction, before selling them to unsuspecting members of the public.

James Norman, Regulatory Team Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "We are pleased that the Magistrate has recognised the seriousness of this crime by referring it to the Crown Court. We will not tolerate any individual or trader who seeks to exploit our community. We will use all means at our disposal to bring these people to justice and will seek to confiscate the earnings made from any illegal activity."
