Green PEA success for local companies

A brand new green certification scheme for businesses, Green PEA is starting to make an impact in Poole, with three local companies signing up and others showing interest.

The Green Positive Environmental Action scheme, Green PEA for short, provides companies with a simple review of their business from an energy cost perspective. They are then offered suggestions to help the business save money on their energy usage. The scheme is graded so companies can work through to achieving the top status. Joining the scheme initially is completely free, with companies just requiring a written commitment from their senior management team.

Borough of Poole's business action group is part of the Poole Environment Partnership and is responsible for the scheme. The group is delighted that Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club, Poole Bay Holdings Ltd and Lush Cosmetics have all signed up to the scheme.

Some of the benefits companies can gain from signing up to Green PEA include a free energy survey, reduced utility bills and increased employee motivation and awareness.

The Green PEA scheme will be officially launched by the Mayor of Poole Councillor Philip Eades at the Hotel Du Vin in Poole on Wednesday 23rd October from 6pm. This will be an opportunity to find out more about the scheme and also hear from the companies that have been involved so far.

Councillor Xena Dion, Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole is pleased with the way the business action group has already achieved significant progress in working towards reducing the borough’s carbon emissions. She said: “Borough of Poole is committed to caring for the environment and the principle of sustainability. Our vision for Poole is of a beautiful place to live, work, learn and play that we can take pride in passing on to future generations. The group has made a great start with the Green PEA certification scheme and I would encourage other local businesses to find out more about this great initiative.”

Simon Harrison, chairman of the action group and representative for Poole Chamber of Commerce, said: “The certification scheme will offer all sizes of companies an opportunity to review their energy consumption and take some simple steps to become more energy efficient and reduce their carbon footprint. I would urge all Poole businesses to sign up to Green PEA, as together we can make a significant contribution.”
