Make Friends At Broadstone Library

Where can you make friends in Broadstone?  In the library, of course!

Broadstone Library's Make Friends with a Book group recently celebrated their 5th anniversary with a cake cut by Cllr Judy Butt and Library Services Manager Sue Wills.

Over the last five years, a group of 12 people have been meeting weekly in Broadstone Library to read together over coffee and biscuits. During that time they have read a wide range of books from ‘The curious incident of the dog in the night time’ to travel memoir ‘The mango orchard’. Through talking about what they read they have formed close friendships, and the group, Make Friends with a Book, has branched out into theatre trips and a monthly pub lunch to supplement the weekly coffee and book.

Margaret Watson, one of the founder members, said: "Our weekly meetings are a great source of enjoyment, companionship and wellbeing."

Cllr Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, Borough of Poole, said: "The Make Friends with a Book group at Broadstone Library is a fantastic example of how friendships can develop through a shared interest. It is wonderful that this group is now meeting outside of their weekly library sessions and not only do they get to share wonderful experiences, they continue with the passion that brought them together originally, reading."

New members are welcome to join the group on Thursday mornings at 10.45am, or a similar group at Poole Library on Tuesdays at 2pm.
