Playbox Playgroup Get Gold Award for Online Safety

Playbox Playgroup in Broadstone are celebrating receiving a national award for online safety.

Staff from Playbox Playgroup were presented with the prestigious ‘Online Compass Gold Award’ from the South West Grid for Learning.

They are the first organisation in the country to receive this award and were congratulated on their success by Ken Corish, Online Safety Manager for South West Grid for Learning, who praised the group for the thought and effort that had gone into improving the online safety of pre-school children, parents and staff by addressing important safeguarding issues.

To achieve this award Playbox Playgroup had to show that they provide a high standard of online safety education and awareness for all staff, children, parents and carers, to ensure that they can be safe online – whether they are at the pre-school, at home or out and about using a mobile device.

Sue Griesser, Owner and Manager of the Playgroup, said: "We are fully aware that there is a fine line between embracing technology and saturating the children with technology, however, it is carefully managed and monitored and our children have become really aware of how to use the computer and internet safely.  We feel that it is important to ensure our children are IT aware as this is the future.  We aim to provide them with a real solid foundation for future learning."

The South West Grid for Learning Trust provides schools and many other educational establishments throughout the region with safe, secure and reliable broadband internet connectivity; broadband-enabled learning resources and services and help, support and advice in using the internet safely.

Cllr Janet Walton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Families and Young People, Borough of Poole, said: "In the ever increasing digital age that we live in, it is fantastic that a Poole playgroup is the first in the country to receive this award for e-safety. While it is important we embrace technology, we must make people aware of how to remain safe online and that is exactly what Playbox have done."
