Apprenticeships in the spotlight at Borough of Poole

Borough of Poole is offering more opportunities for young people, with funding for new apprenticeships now available.

Apprenticeships are being advertised across a wide variety of areas. These include working in libraries, conservation and natural habitats, web editing and customer services.

The Council already employs 16 apprentices across its services, providing skills and experience for a future career. A dedicated Apprenticeship Project Officer is in place, who will be working to support young people from all backgrounds as they enter the world of work.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Leader of the Council, Borough of Poole, said: “With exam results approaching, we know that many young people in Poole will be looking at their options for further education or training.

“Many of our previous apprentices have gone on to full-time employment with the Council following their year’s training. An apprenticeship with Borough of Poole can open up a wealth of opportunities, for anyone looking to enhance their career prospects by developing real skills and valuable qualifications – and, importantly for many – an ideal opportunity to earn and learn.”

And for young people who are not yet ready to sign up for a full apprenticeship, Borough of Poole traineeships may also be available. These will provide shorter periods of supported work experience in a variety of council services, and could act as a stepping-stone towards an apprenticeship.

The scheme is aimed at young people resident in Poole who are 16-24 years old. For further information or to apply, please visit www.boroughofpoole.com/apprenticeships, email apprentices@poole.gov.uk or call 01202 633482.
