New Tenant For Hamworthy Outdoor Education Centre

Borough of Poole is pleased to announce it has secured a new tenant for Hamworthy Outdoor Education Centre.

Following the retirement of the Centre Principle in October, officers have been carrying out procurement activities to secure the future of outdoor education provision on this site in Hamworthy Park.

Harbour Challenge Oce Ltd will be taking on a 25-year lease for the site and delivering activities from 1 March 2014.

Councillor Elaine Atkinson, Leader of the Council, Borough of Poole, said: "I’m delighted that a local provider could be secured to continue providing outdoor education from this site to residents and the local community. We are keen to work with Harbour Challenge to ensure the provision of activities can continue and grow to enable more people to have access to the wonderful facilities and services they have at their door."

Chad Edwards, President and Founder of Harbour Challenge, said: "This provides a great opportunity for Harbour Challenge to provide many outdoor activities to residents of Poole at reasonable rates and to fulfil our charitable aims."

The council will be working with Harbour Challenge to enhance the aesthetics on site and ensure a safe and friendly environment can be created for those participating in activities there. The borough will be clearing some vegetation in the boat compund, ready for the use of equipment again and Harbour Challenge will be erecting new fencing and gates to ensure their equipment can be stored safely, as per permitted development rights.

There will also be an opening weekend scheduled to celebrate the facilities being launched, so keep an eye out for more details in the local press. For information on courses taking place please visit the Harbour Challenge website.
