Your Borough Of Poole

Severe Weather Update - 03 January 2014

**Updated 12.30am 3 January 2014**

Following the high winds and heavy rain over the New Year period, Borough of Poole is dealing with a number of incidents.

We are aware of flooding across the borough, and have been working hard to ensure disruption to the road network is minimised. Shore Road has now reopened following flooding during high tide. Following a period of closure, Magna Road reopened yesterday after staff successfully cleared the flood water using pumps. There is some floodwater on Whitecliff Road but the road is passable with care

The heavy rain and strong winds have had an impact on the beaches, and work has started to clear sand from the promenade.

We are currently carrying out work to give pedestrian access to the promenade. Work started at Sandbanks yesterday with one tractor and from Monday we will have two tractors pushing the sand back on the beach and an excavator dragging the sand away from the prom wall. Work will be carried out from Branksome Chine to Shore Road, although with further severe weather expected we ask residents to be patient, as sand may be blown back onto the promenade. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and thank beach users for their patience and understanding.

With high wind causing a number of trees to fall, officers must prioritise those affecting main highways. Once those trees have been cleared we will focus on other open spaces.

With further severe weather expected, please take care when driving through floodwater and if you see a road closed sign please do not ignore it. If a road has been closed due to flooding water will be very deep and you are likely to get stuck if you attempt to drive through. Recovery vehicles are unlikely to help you.
