New Summer Sunday Bus Service

A popular bus route in Poole will soon benefit from a new Sunday bus service during the summer.

Route 152 provides a bus service between Rockley Park and Poole bus station stopping at Lower Hamworthy on the way.

Route 152 from Rockley Park to Poole bus station

From Sunday 27 July this route will be boosted with a Sunday and Bank Holiday service throughout the school summer holidays benefitting both local residents and visitors alike.

As well as being a popular service for visitors to Poole's much-loved holiday park, the route operates close to Hamworthy Park and Harbour Reach, providing local residents with a convenient half-hourly bus service to the town centre.

To improve access to some of Poole's favourite attractions, there will be a slight change to the normal 152 route. During the summer it will follow most of the route normally taken by the Route ONE bus providing easy and convenient access to Poole Quay, Poole Park as well as Poole Hospital.

Councillor Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, said: “This new Sunday service meets long-standing requests from passengers for a Sunday timetable on the 152 service and on Route ONE. We are sure it will be a big hit with local people and visitors who want to explore the town centre and Poole's popular local attractions. It will also give an added boost to the local economy and enhance Poole's tourism offer at the height of the summer season."

Sue Holland, Holiday Experience Manager at Rockley Park added: "We are delighted that this change to the Sunday service has been made for the summer; the owners and holiday guests at Rockley already value the bus service and are regular users. This will lead to increased footfall into Poole and local attractions in the surrounding area, which are always heavily promoted by Rockley to our guests and owners, whilst also enabling our guests to reduce their carbon footprint and leave their cars parked at Rockley. There are so many things to do in Poole and the fantastic tourism offer is a big part of Rockley Park’s popularity, which adds hugely to the experience our visitors and guests enjoy."

Nikki Honer, Communications Manager for morebus, commented: "Many holiday makers and residents alike will benefit from this additional service and with our day tickets being valid on 152 this will offer new connections for customers."

Councillor Mike Wilkins, Ward Councillor for Hamworthy West, said: "This is great news for holiday makers and local residents. To have extra buses on a Sunday during the summer should bring extra economic benefits to Poole."

Councillor Charmaine Parkinson, Ward Councillor for Hamworthy East, added: "I am pleased to see this improvement during the summer holidays to the local bus services and am sure it will be very well used by residents and visitors alike."

The new route starts on Sunday 27 July and will operate every Sunday until 31 August. It will also operate on Bank Holiday Monday 25 August. The service will be operated by Damory and full details can be found on the morebus website www.morebus.co.uk or by telephoning traveline on 0871 200 22 33.
