Still time to register for discounted Garden Waste Service

There’s still time to register for next year’s garden waste service, taking advantage of the discounted rate of £30.20 available until 30 November 2014.

The fortnightly green bin collections run from March to November and are available to every household in the borough. Registrations received after midnight on 30 November will be charged the standard price of £31.80. Anyone with an Access to Leisure and Learning Card will still be entitled to a 50% discount on the first bin ordered, making the service just £15.90.

The charges for the 2015 garden waste collection service have received an inflationary 2.6% increase on the previous year. Cabinet agreed to this small increase at their meeting in October. Members also agreed to maintain the current 38 weeks of green bin collections instead of the proposed increase to 44 weeks.
Councillor Mike White, Deputy Leader of Borough of Poole, said: “The 2.6% increase is in line with recommendations to Cabinet from the Overview and Scrutiny Committee. There does seem to be interest in extending the period of the current green bin scheme, but we would want to consult more fully on this before considering going ahead."

More than 21,800 green bins were registered in 2014 allowing in excess of 6,000 tonnes of garden waste to be recycled since the start of this year's service in March.
