Foil at the ready

Poole residents can now recycle aluminium foil in their blue bins.

Borough of Poole's fortnightly blue bin collection service now accepts clean foil, including foil trays from ready meals and bakery products. These products will then be sorted and processed into new metal products.

Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: “Recycling in Poole goes from strength to strength. Last year an amazing 15,000 tonnes of household waste was collected to be recycled, which was helped by providing residents with larger blue bins last summer. By recycling more and putting less waste in the black bin, it is not only better for the environment but also saves the Council money.

“It’s great to know that we can now add foil to the list of accepted materials.”

Introduced in 2004, the blue bin recycling scheme has proved a great success. In addition to aluminium foil, Poole residents can recycle tins, cans and aerosols, paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, food and drink cartons and plastic bottles and food containers such as yogurt pots and margarine tubs.
