Nominations are now open for the Borough of Poole and Poole Sports Council annual sports awards which recognise local sporting success.

The awards, to be held on 23 September at Magna Academy, Poole, will celebrate both individual and team successes. Nominations can be made by members of the public, sports clubs, sports coaches, leisure centres and schools and can be for any age.

Nominations can be made for either Certificates of Commendation or The Freddie Rowe Award. The Certificates of Commendation recognises outstanding sporting achievements over the last year. The Freddie Rowe Award, recognises outstanding sporting performance or contribution, such as world or national success, or for dedication or long service to a club or sport, such as a coach, club secretary or volunteer.

Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, Borough of Poole, said: “Over the last few years this successful event has highlighted just how much sporting talent there is in Poole. It’s a great opportunity for local sporting successes to be recognised for their commitment and outstanding ability.”

In 2014, 30 nominations were received with over 60 certificates being awarded including Macie Schmidt from Poole Cycle Speedway who became British U13 Champion and Leo McCrea who, at just 10 years old, won five gold medals at the National Dwarf Sports Association Games.
