This is part of Borough of Poole’s award winning Starting Out initiative. Suitable for families with children aged between three and five-years old. Spaces are limited and booking is essential.

Scaplen’s Court Museum will be open every day in August between 10am-4.30pm Monday to Saturday and between 12-4.30pm on Sundays. Admission is free and provides a wonderful opportunity to look around one of Poole’s finest medieval buildings. Additionally, every Monday and Tuesday throughout August visitors are invited to step back in time with our period activities. Between 11am and 3pm our experienced team of explainers and re-enactors will be demonstrating crafts from the past and encouraging families to have a go at historical sports, games and other activities.

Activities will include finding out how the World War II wife made her rations stretch, sewing, dyeing, and sweet making and finding out about the gory subject of medicine through time thanks to our resident barber surgeon.

The tranquil haven of Scaplen’s Court Herb Garden is open every day throughout the summer from 1-4pm.

Scaplen’s Court Museum, Garden and activities are all free of charge. Not all areas are fully accessible and there are uneven floors and dimly lit rooms.

Every Thursday in August at Poole Museum visitors can take part in the Tactile Trail between 1-4pm. Staff will be on hand to show visitors a range of different museum objects. Visitors will also have the opportunity to handle some objects themselves.

There is plenty more to see and do at Poole Museum, which is open from 10am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 12-5pm on Sundays. Admission is free. Families can have a go at one of our trails, including our special holidays and celebrations quiz and sporting trail. Visitors can find out about sport in Poole, including our Olympic efforts, and even see an Olympic torch in our exhibition, Our Sporting Life.
