Love to Ride National Cycle Challenge

Employees from across Borough of Poole will be getting on their bikes this month as part of the National Cycle Challenge.

Council staff will be joining around 20,000 businesses and other local authorities in the challenge to see who can get the highest number of people cycling for at least 10 minutes.

The Challenge takes place between Monday 8 and Sunday 28 June 2015, during which time all rides will be logged on the National Cycle Challenge website, www.lovetoride.net/uk. Companies from across Poole are encouraged to join in the two-wheeled fun, with prizes and incentives for teams and individuals available.

Residents are encouraged to have some fun and join the challenge too. Cyclists only need to ride for 10 minutes to take part and rides can take place at any time, anywhere. Just register at www.lovetoride.net/uk.

Poole cyclists are also invited to take part in the Sustainable Poole Day, taking place by the cricket pavilion in Poole Park between 11am and 6pm on Thursday 25 June. Dr Bike service will be offering free tune-ups and advice on major repairs, to make sure everyone has a bike that is safe and roadworthy and Borough of Poole transportation staff will have information on cycle routes and training on offer. Cyclists will also be encouraged to take part in the challenge if they haven’t yet signed up.

Councillor Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: “This is a great opportunity to encourage people to ride their bikes and I would urge staff in businesses across Poole to get involved in this fun and free competition. I'm looking forward to seeing how Borough of Poole staff compare to others in the area when it comes to getting on their bikes.”
