The Borough of Poole joined more than 730 locations throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries to raise the Commonwealth Flag on Monday 9 March.

Mayor of Poole Cllr Peter Adams was joined by staff to raise the Commonwealth Flag above Poole’s Civic Centre at 10am. The ceremony began with the reading of a special message of good wishes from Her Majesty The Queen.

This is the second year that Poole has joined thousands of participants from all walks of life to mark the occasion, which enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.

A personal message from His Excellency Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation, was also read out before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag.

Cllr Peter Adams, Mayor of Poole, said: "We are proud to be joining people from all over the world in marking Commonwealth Day with the raising of the flag. It is a positive and uplifting way us to link with fellow citizens of the Commonwealth.”
