New council leader for Poole

Cllr Janet Walton is the new Leader of the Council for Borough of Poole.

Cllr Walton was elected as Leader at a meeting of the Full Council on Wednesday 20 May 2015. Her appointment follows the recent local elections on 7 May.

Cllr Walton, who represents the Oakdale ward, has been a councillor since 2007 and was Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children Services prior to her appointment as Leader of the Council.

At the meeting, Cllr Walton also announced a new Cabinet team for Poole.

Cllr May Haines - Deputy Leader of the Council, Finance, Operations, Customer Services and Benefits
Cllr Xena Dion - Economy, Culture and Leisure
Cllr Ian Potter - Planning, Transportation and Regeneration
Cllr John Rampton - Environment and Consumer Protection
Cllr Karen Rampton - Health Social Care, Housing and Communities
Cllr Mike White - Children, Young People and Capital Projects 

Cllr Walton said: "It is a great honour to be elected Leader of the Council and I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues on the council to ensure Poole continues to be a prosperous, happy and healthy place in which to live, learn and work. 

"We have a strong reputation as an efficient council with a focus on giving value for money for taxpayers and supporting the growth of our local economy. I want to build on this reputation and  engage with people in our local communities for the benefit of all our residents."  

Appointments to a number of overview and scrutiny committees and other council committees, including planning and licensing, were also agreed at the meeting.
