Poole Children’s Centres named ‘Play Champions’

Poole Children’s Centres have been recognised for the services they provide to local families, after they were named ‘Play Champions’ by National Children’s Day UK.

The annual event, which was set up by the Save Childhood Movement and took place this year on Sunday 17 May, is designed to celebrate children’s rights and freedoms.

Play Champions

The Play Champion accreditation recognises playgroups, children’s centres and schools where children have space and time to play. Organisations named as Play Champions must be shown to provide a welcoming space for children to play, with youngsters able to use their natural creativity and imagination.

Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Capital Projects, Borough of Poole, said: “We are extremely proud to have been named Play Champions, and to have the quality of our services recognised. The staff at all our centres are dedicated to providing families and young people in Poole with the chance to learn and develop, and playing together is a great way of doing this."

As well as providing an outstanding play environment, in order to gain the Play Champion accreditation Poole Children’s Centres have also signed up to Play England’s Charter for Children’s Play. Each centre is now able to display the Play Champion badge.
