Mini explorers can travel the world with Poole Museum

Poole Museum has developed a new storytelling programme for pre-school children which will take them on an interactive trip around the world.

Mini explorers are invited to join Poole Museum’s intrepid explorer, Gertrude, who will help them sail a boat, battle a crocodile and make a cake. All the while singing familiar songs and finding about artefacts on display in Poole Museum.

The Mini Explorers activity introduces children to collections in the museum whilst finding out about the world through them.

Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure, Borough of Poole, said: “This new activity is a lovely way to introduce young children to the educational delights on offer at Poole Museum. It’s a fun, interactive way for young children to learn about Poole and the wider world.”

The activity is part of an extensive programme for young children. Thanks to funding from the South West Museum Development Partnership and Arts Council England the activity is available free to the first four nurseries or pre-schools that book this autumn. Free places are limited to one session per pre-school or nursery for up to 30 children.

Mini Explorers can take place at Poole Museum or at a pre-school or nursery setting. Bookings can be made on 01202 262623 or e:mail t.cole@poole.gov.uk. More information can be found www.poolemuseum.co.uk/schools/early-learning

Poole Museum is open from 10 am until 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12 noon until 4pm on Sundays.
