Bournemouth and Poole Sports Facilities Strategy 2014-26

Guide future provision and management of sports pitches and facilities in the Bournemouth and Poole area in the context of national policy and local sports development criteria. Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) 17: Planning for Open Space, Sport and Recreation (ODPM, July 2002) advises local planning authorities (LPAs) to provide the strongest protection for open space, to resist development pressures that could diminish recreational provision and to adopt a strategic approach to the provision and protection of sports facilities. In doing this, ‘Local authorities should undertake robust assessments of the existing and future needs of their communities for open space, sport and recreational facilities’ (PPG17, paragraph 1).
